ITZEA HOUSE
Blazoned house from the 17th century belonging to the Baroja family that the famous writer Pío Baroja acquired in 1912
This 17th-century house belongs to the Baroja family, which the famous writer Pío Baroja acquired in 1912 and where his nephew, the academician Julio Caro Baroja, died. On the other side of the river we can see a funerary stele made by Jorge Oteiza in memory of Pío Baroja. Note the double wooden eaves: they were fashioned on Renaissance models, and it is not uncommon to find this same architectural detail on stately homes and other palaces in Navarre and Aragon.
