City surrounded by a wall of the XVIth century, where the door of Santa Maria allows to penetrate in the medieval city
From the outside you can see the 16th century wall that still surrounds part of the city. We enter the medieval town through the Puerta de Santa Maria (Santa Maria Gate), which is surmounted by the town's coat of arms, and then we go up Calle Mayor to see some remarkable buildings, including the Casa Consistorial (Town Hall) at no. 28. In the Plaza de Armas stands the Carlos V Castle, a magnificent 10th-century fortress converted into a Parador. Also don't miss the beautiful Plaza de Gipúzkoa, which, despite appearances, is only recently built!
