HOTEL LA GALERÍA
Small hotel with a timeless charm in San Sebastián with spacious and well-maintained rooms with magnificent views
Housed in an elegant 19th-century building, this small hotel stands on the seafront promenade of Ondarreta. The spacious and well-maintained rooms are decorated in an old-fashioned style inspired by the great painters - Picasso, Dalí, Miró - with period furniture. Most of them offer sumptuous views of Ondarreta beach. The buffet breakfast is served in the pretty bar with a maritime decor. Good to know: the hotel welcomes pets (at an additional cost). A hotel with timeless charm, just like San Sebastian.

Upon check-in, I was given my room key and number with directions to find the elevator and even which way to turn after I exited the elevator. Standard experience for a hotel, but that's where it ended. I then proceeded to hunt for my room door in at hallway filled with unmarked doors. I thought I had gone mad, what hotel doesn't have room numbers? I am not one to rush to ask for help, so I search EVERYWHERE for a number on all the doors before giving up and returning to the front desk. The staff member said "oh yes, we've removed all the numbers because we're getting new numbers". I'm no hospitality customer service expert, but mentioning you're running a mad house of a hotel with no numbers on the doors seems like it should be stated twice upon check-in along with a map or escort to find the room.
The room was supplied with 2 towels and a floor mat, nothing else, and I searched everywhere. The 2 towels were smaller and about as thin as the pillowcases on the bed. Honestly, you're better off removing the pillowcases and drying yourself with them after a shower. Pretty sad for the price they charge.
The AC in my room was broken and would only recirculate the air, not cool it. I sweat all night and got almost no sleep. A few hours before the sun came up I couldn't take it anymore, went for a long walk, returned around 8am, and it felt like walking into a humid swamp when I entered my room. Fun times for €230!
Recomendable.
The only improvement that we can suggest is for there to be some form of information on the bathroom wall on how the shower works, since it took us a while to figure out how it works.
Overall, this hotel was absolutely worth the price and we will consider it again when visiting San Sebastián.
