MIRAMAR PALACE
English-style palace that stands on a promontory facing the bay in Donostia
Completed in 1893, this sumptuous English style palace was built as the summer residence of the Regent Maria Cristina. Prone to skin infections, her doctors had recommended a treatment based on seawater baths. So it was in San Sebastián that the queen took to spending her summers, taking with her her court and all the aristocracy of the time. The palace stands on a promontory facing the bay. It is the permanent seat of the summer courses of the University of the Basque Country, while its gardens host numerous celebrations.
