CUEVA DE SANTIMAMIÑE
A cave located near the hermitage of San Mamés, presents an important set of cave paintings and engravings
The Santimamiñe cave is located near the San Mamés hermitage, on the southern slopes of Mount Ereñozar. It features an important group of cave paintings and engravings dating from the Upper Palaeolithic. The first room features only three representations, including that of an ibex, but the second room is much richer, with numerous signs and symbols. In all, some 50 animals have been counted, the clear majority of them bison, but also horses, a bear and a deer. The paintings are black, done with charcoal.
