MUSEO DE LA PAZ DE GERNIKA
Museum that recalls the history of the 1937 bombing and addresses the issue of peace through its collections
This Peace Museum traces the history of the 1937 bombing and addresses the issue of peace through its collections. Inaugurated in 1998, it occupies an elegant building by the Basque architect Manuel María Smith, opposite the town hall. Behind a window, the mountain of rubble is a striking testimony to the bombing of Gernika. Its temporary exhibitions reveal the horrors of war and develop highly educational reflections in favour of peace.
