This monument dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus represents a large bronze statue finished in 1927, the work of the architect Pedro Muguruza and the sculptor Lorenzo Coullaut. It stands in the square of the same name, at the intersection of the Gran Vía and Avenida Sabino Arana, set on a monumental obelisk some 40 metres high. It is one of the most emblematic works of art in Bilbao, especially since it can be seen from almost any point in the city.
