MERCADO DE LA RIBERA
An eclectic building located on the edge of the river, which houses one of the largest covered markets in Europe
On the banks of the ría, this eclectic-style building houses one of the largest covered markets in Europe with its 10,000 square metres of floor space. Although its commercial activity dates back to the 14th century, the current building dates back to 1929. The architect Pedro Ispizua imagined a very modern building for its time, allowing natural light to penetrate all the spaces. The market was given a facelift in 2010 after two years of work, which restored the façade to its full splendour. Saturday mornings are a delight: the noise, the rush, the local colour as they say.
