EL ARENAL
A place for walking, occupying an area of almost 30,000 square meters, marks the separation between Casco Viejo and the rest of the city
This emblematic promenade that marks the separation between Casco Viejo and the rest of the city was once a wide sandy strip that bordered the ría. Developed from the 18th century onwards, El Arenal occupies an area of almost 30,000 m². With its fountains adorned with frogs and sirens, its bandstand with art deco accents, its trees and statues, El Arenal is a popular place to stroll around the city. Every Sunday morning, its traditional flower market is a popular meeting place for many Bilbaínos.
