BASILICA SAN PRUDENCIO DE ARMENTIA
Basilica of Romanesque architecture in Victoria-Gasteiz with numerous documents from the Middle Ages
Numerous documents from the Middle Ages mention the Basilica of San Prudencio de Armentia as one of the most important religious centres in Álava and the first cathedral in the Basque Country. Of Romanesque architecture, it dates from the end of the 12th century (a major reform was undertaken in the 18th century, transforming the general structure of the building). On 28 April, the day of San Prudencia, patron saint of Álava, a large religious procession (romería) is held here.
