PINDAL CAVE
Cave classified as a World Heritage Site with rock paintings
At the mouth of the Cares-Deva River, the cave is a longitudinal gallery of nearly 600 metres, of which only the first 300 metres can be visited. Discovered in 1908, it contains rock paintings that are thought to date from between 18,000 and 13,000 years ago. The complex is divided into five zones, the largest of which, at the entrance, contains, among other things, animal figures and abstract motifs. Further west, a fish and a mammoth can be seen, rare representations in the Paleolithic era. The cave was declared a World Heritage Site in 2008.
