JARDÍN BOTÁNÍCO ATLÁNTICO
A cool oasis with a charming romantic garden with beautiful collections of ornamental plants
It is an oasis of freshness and peace that covers an area of 16 hectares, where more than 30,000 plants and 2,500 different plant species are shared, all organised around 4 thematic areas: the Cantabrian environment, to get to know the local flora and vegetation, which are also home to typical Mediterranean species; the plant factory, to see the resources of the New and Old Worlds; the Atlantic itinerary, on both sides of the ocean; and the island garden. Designed at the end of the 19th century by Florencio Valdés, an industrialist from Gijón, this charming romantic garden has been integrated into the ensemble and constitutes a beautiful route, with references to French gardens (water features, surprising corners...), majestic trees and beautiful collections of ornamental plants. Throughout your walk, you will find rare endemic plants, but also exhibitions, rest areas and a cafeteria. There is something for everyone and the visit can last several hours in the heart of this luxuriant nature. Guided tours, included in the price of the ticket, are also organized according to different themes allowing to know all the secrets of this living museum. Each visit is unique and very enriching. In the summer, look out for the music festival La Terraza del Botánico and the shows organised during the Noches mágicas del Botánico. But don't worry, if you come at any other time of the year, every month has its own festival.
