The service was fine, we had a surprise celebration platter at the end :) i guess waiters here just aren’t used to serve dishes to share but overall the attitude and service meet bare minimum.
But for the food…. To start off we ordered a bottle of wine, they placed the wine in a cooling jug without ice, no one came servicing and refill our glasses. We ordered two appetisers to share, only one came. The salad was without surprise, it felt like a bunch of leftovers and micro-greens mixed together. The steak we ordered, doesn’t even taste like the Scottish beef we had, the seasoning was really over, for sure we are having a kidney dialysis after. The pork main is fine but it doesn’t match with the purée(?) or whatever mash that is… At this stage, we can’t asked to order dessert.
I complained and got 25% off, so good service. However I haven't left the restaurant happy with my restaurant choice.
The place is beautiful and has a real ambience to it that creates a comfortable dining experience. The steaks were shown to us beforehand so we could see what was on offer first hand by an excellent waiter who was knowledgeable and friendly.
Between 9 of us, we enjoyed a real mixture of sides and steaks, but the main thing we agreed on was that this was a place that knew how to bring out the best flavour of the food prepared. Steaks were cooked perfectly but with a delicious criss cross char to them, I had the portobello mushrooms and baby new potatoes with a ribeye and chimichurri sauce and left all my dishes empty, but the cream spinach yorkie puds also proved really popular in the group. Everything was seasoned so well you won't need anything extra for them but an empty stomach.
This is the benchmark I will measure any steaks against going forwards and I highly recommend it to any meat lovers out there.
I do recommend booking in advance to secure a table as it’s a high demand place. truly amazing, thank you!
The restaurant sits above The Huxley and is very chic with an almost a 60s or 70s feel with excellent views over Princes St and Queensferry St.
The service was excellent from our arrival, and our server Olivia was very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. The daily specials, along with their regular cuts, were explained in amazing detail, and the opportunity to choose our own steak knife was definitely a novelty we both enjoyed.
The food was simply divine. The steak was perfectly cooked, and the sides were fantastic! We went for the wagyu and the Hardiesmill cut of the day, both incredibly reasonably priced.
Overall, our bill came to just over £100 (before gift card). The price tag was undoubtedly worth it. Kyloe is definitely somewhere for a special occasion, or if you fancy splashing out just a little more for 10x the quality.
Outstanding!
We have eaten at other top steak houses (such as Gaucho and Hawksmoor), but our experience at Kyloe knocked everything else out of the park. If you love steak, you'll love Kyloe.
When we're back in Edinburgh again we will return!
