Just above Dean Village, B+B continues to build its reputation in Edinburgh. It combines history and modernism within its Victorian walls, built in 1883 for the owner of the daily newspaper Scotsman. He has since found a new future in the hotel business and business is going quite well. All 27 rooms are accessible by lift and have a shower or bathtub. Many also have local artwork. The lounge and its bookshop are absolutely outstanding and there is a bar for the residents. The reception is up to scratch!

Gorgeous building with gothic features. Great service, spacious clean rooms and a tasty breakfast.

Nice stay, but just a few critical observations.
Shower under powered. Towels small. Lack of lift should feature up front, not as a 'by the way'.
Best features.
The incredible view from our top floor rear window. Staff - Liam in particular for bringing our luggage to our room. The comfortable bed. The TV. Amazing breakfast and waiting staff. Did I mention the amazing view?
Would we return? It's all about the bed and breakfast, so f course we would! ????

Booked a two night stay at the hotel, for our 25th wedding anniversary. Upon arrival the receptionist, (Dianne), was friendly and helpful.
We were given Room 6 which was on the 3rd floor. We were then informed the lift was out of order!
This made it very difficult for us to get to and from our room as we had to walk up and down numerous flights of stairs and I'm also recovering from major surgery, which meant I had to stop to catch my breath on each landing! The room itself was very basic, much like left over furniture had been put in it! There was a broken tile in the bathroom which could have cut you feet had it loosened any further!
However, breakfast was served by a lady, (who appeared to be working on her own, as she was so busy) for whom any request was 'nae bother' and was truly delightful!
It's a lovely hotel, in a great place, only let down by the lack of a functioning lift and TLC in certain areas!
