Newark Castle is a castle in the early th century. The wall, on its west face, is decorated with Jacques I's coat of arms. 100 prisoners were shot here in 1645 after the battle of Philiphaugh. Visiting this ruin requires caution. Ask to enter the Buccleugh Estates in Bowhill.
