LINDISFARNE CASTLE
This small fort has a great charm, perched on a rocky outcrop on the Holy Island peninsula, facing the sea and the horizon. Built in 1550, it was restored in the Arts & Crafts style by Edwin Luytens at the beginning of the 20th century. It has multiple vaulted rooms and a breathtaking view. Don't miss the small village, where the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory (£8,10-£9 - www.english-heritage.org.uk) still stand. It was the site of the first recorded Viking attack. It is recommended to visit it between 1 and 2 pm.
