OBAN DISTILLERY

Founded in 1794, this distillery is one of the few you'll find in the center of a popular tourist destination, making it a must-see when visiting Oban. The production site has never really expanded due to lack of space, and the techniques are faithful to the principles of this fascinating industry. The tour is particularly comprehensive and instructive, and includes a first whisky tasting, straight from the cask, and a second, once the product has been bottled. You'll discover the 14-year-old, which goes remarkably well with ginger and dark chocolate. This single malt has countless fans around the world, thanks to an identity between sea and land, reflected in its iodized, fruity and slightly smoky flavors. Two other tours are available for enthusiasts: the 2-hour "Exclusive Distillery Tour", with a tour of the warehouses and tastings, and the "Distillery Manager's Tour & Tasting" with the site manager.

The site is also very pleasant to visit even without a guided tour, with a boutique where you can bottle your own exclusive whisky, and engrave your own bottle to make it unique. Upstairs, the bar area features an exhibition on the history of Oban and its distillery, and immerses you in the atmosphere of an old sailing ship.
