KISIMUL CASTLE
Kisimul Castle is the only true medieval castle still visible in the Outer Hebrides. Set in Castlebay Bay, it was the seat of the MacNeil of Barra family, who arrived on the island as early as the 11th century. It was not, however, built on its splendid site until the 15th century. It was fully restored by a descendant of the family in the 20th century. When it's open to the public, you can explore its 3 floors and take a boat tour (included in the price). Please note that it is currently under renovation, and can only be viewed from the outside.
