It overlooks the River Ness. It was seized by the Jacobites in 1746. Its present pink appearance dates from a refurbishment carried out between 1837 and 1847. Today, it houses a court of justice and a military garrison. The statue of Flora MacDonald, the heroine who helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape, adorns its forehead and was sculpted by Inverness-born Andrew Davidson. The castle is scheduled to open to the public in 2025 with the Inverness Castle Experience.
