It's Scotland's postcard par excellence: Urquhart Castle enjoys an absolutely breathtaking location on the banks of Loch Ness, scanning the horizon and the apparitions of Nessie. Its ruins that can be seen today date from the 13th to the 16th century. Abandoned in the 17th century, it was partly destroyed in 1692 to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Jacobites. Now only the romantic shadow of past greatness remains, but the panorama from the top of Grant Tower is grandiose. The Visitor Centre completes the tour.

Il n'y a que des ruines, mais l'emplacement au bord du Loch est génial, surtout pour les photos.

The landscape around the castle and the views over loch Ness are magnificent. The castle is actually plus a ruin that another thing is visited and quite quickly. I find that the entrance is a little expensive for what it is but it is not possible to approach the castle without paying for the visit. Before the visit is a small film informative on various battles that took place in this place as well as the various stages of construction of the castle.

The day when we went to the Urquhart castle, there was a medieval wind, which adds to the friendly atmosphere of the place. No Nessie on the horizon, but a beautiful ruin pleasant to visit, although very touristic. Boutique memory is huge... It is not a castle that we want to see at all costs, but it was included in exploring this pass, we went and have to spend a pleasant time.
