MARCHÉ D'APRAKSIN DVOR
A market straight out of a Dostoyevsky novel in the middle of the imperial capital. Muddy alleys, open-air shops, shouts of vendors pushing their carts loaded with bales of clothes. The commercial zone occupies 57 buildings, making it the largest in St. Petersburg. Being in the centre of the city, Aprashka, as it is called among the locals, is still considered the cheapest market in the city. A comprehensive renovation started in 2018 and is scheduled for completion in 2025, but the market is open during the works.
