Sheltered for many years by the Notre-Dame-de-Kazan Cathedral under the name of Museum of Atheism, it contains many cult objects confiscated by the Bolsheviks. Although Orthodox worship is the most "exposed", the religions of Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome, Buddhism, Islam, Judaism and archaic beliefs (shamanism) are all represented in nine rooms. The 10th is devoted to Catholicism and society in the Middle Ages .
