A Finnish city conquered by the Russians in 1940, Viborg was definitively attached to the USSR in 1947. The museum, located in Ilitchevo, a former Finnish hamlet, is housed in the old property of the Parviaïnen family. The exhibition, entitled Life in a Finnish Hamlet at the beginning of the th century, also evokes the visits of Lenin and the Russian socialist G. Plekhanov to Yalkala.
