NAVAL CATHEDRAL OF KRONSTADT
The Kronstadt St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral is an Orthodox cathedral in Kronstadt. Built in the early 20th century, it is dedicated to the Russian military fleet. With a height of 71 meters, it is an example of Art Nouveau architecture. The cathedral can accommodate up to 5,000 people. The cathedral was closed in 1929 and used as a cinema, officers' house and naval museum. In 2002, the Russian Orthodox Church reinstalled the cross on the main dome and celebrated the Divine Liturgy for the first time since 1929 in 2005. In 2013, the Patriarch of Russia presided over the ceremony of the great reconsecration of the cathedral, which had been fully restored. St. Nicholas of Kronstadt Naval Cathedral is an important historical and religious site to visit during a stay in St. Petersburg.
