MIROJA MONASTERY
From this monastery you should visit the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Holy Saviour, a jewel of religious art of ancient Russia, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is here that the most beautiful preserved frescoes from the period before the Mongols' arrival on Russian soil can be found. The frescoes have been restored and most of what can be seen today dates from the construction of the cathedral (mid 12th century). Then stop for a cup of locally grown Ivanchay tea around a few tables set up in the garden.
