NORTH CASCADES HIGHWAY SCENIC DRIVE
Welcome to the North American Alps! Highway 20 runs along Skagit River and offers panoramic views of the North Cascades. Attention, after Marblemount, there are no petrol stations or restaurants to Mazama or Winthrop. From November to April, the road is closed from the Ross Dam Trailhead in Washington Pass. The following steps are not to be missed:
Creek Falls and Overlook Gorge: view from the bridge and departure of a short and very easy trail with a superb view of the dam.
Diablo Lake Overlook: view of the Diablo Lake and the Davis, Jack, Pyramid and Colonial summits.
Ross Dam Trailhead: departure of the very short Ross Dam trails, West Bank or longer, Happy Panther (20 km return).
Ross Lake Overlooks: beautiful view of Ross Lake and the North Cascades. Departure from the Happy Creek Forest trail (500 meters loop) through a forest of huge trees and along a creek.
Rainy Pass: a 1.6 km trail leads to Rainy Lake and waterfalls. You can also walk to Lake Ann (3.2 km) or opt for the Maple Pass Loop (12 km).
Washington Pass Overlook: the highest point of Highway 20. Panoramic view of Liberty Bell Mountain and short trail through the subalpine forest with some steeper steps and passages.
