HARBOR ROCK
Roche Harbor, at the northwestern tip of the island, is a beautiful heritage village with a luxury hotel.
On the northwestern tip of San Juan Island, the pretty coastal village of Roche Harbor is a National Heritage Site. Among others, we will visit the Roche Harbor Resort Hotel, a real jewel dating back to 1887. The hotel was built next to the Roche Harbor Lime and Cement Company, founded by lawyer John S. McMillin. The 20 or so rooms were intended to accommodate the clients of the famous lawyer McMillin during the negotiations. The lime (lime) quarries were located southwest of the hotel and are now used for walking trails. From this industrial past, we can see today the two lime kilns (lime kilns) remaining to the right of the hotel. Today Roche Harbor is a picturesque and storied private village, owned by one company, and is home to a high quality tourism industry, with a majority of boaters attracted to its quiet little harbour. Within the village, you will be able to stay in luxurious and historic hotels, and to get your food from several restaurants, including three renowned for their fine gastronomy in the village. A brochure detailing the various points of interest in the village, including Our Lady of Good Voyage Chapel, is available at the Roche Harbor Hotel. At the entrance of the village, there is also a sculpture garden. In addition, the marina is the starting point for many tourist activities such as whale watching, kayaking, historical guided tours, etc.
