PORTLAND ART MUSEUM
Founded in 1892, Portland Art Museum is the oldest museum on the West Coast and the seventh oldest in the nation. If he traces the history of art since the country's birth, we go there mainly for his collection of Amerindian sculptures (native Americans) collected throughout the Pacific Northwest. But also for his romantic paintings such as Albert Bierstadt's Mount Hood (19th century), modern paintings such as Jack Tworkov's or more contemporary works by American artists that we know little about in France. On the Asian side, we can admire among others the work of the Japanese Katsushika Hokusai, The Falling Mist Waterfall at Mount Kurokami in Shimotsuke Province, English silverware, photographs (in the modern wing), graphic drawings (in the tunnel connecting the two buildings). But the museum also offers renowned national and international temporary exhibitions on modern and contemporary themes. The institution also houses the Northwest Film Center, making it one of Portland's flagship theatres for visual art.
