OREGON HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Located opposite the Portland Art Museum, this museum traces the history of Oregon since the conquest of the West. After several months of closure, the new permanent exhibition "Oregon Experience" was opened in February 2019 in a more interactive space that promises a discovery of the Oregon Trail, its pioneers, the exciting story of the Great West that is told here. The highlight of the visit is the Benson Automobile, the first car built in Oregon by Nils Benson in 1904. Another exhibition in the same building but in the basement: "Oregon Voices", which provides keys to understanding the history of the city and its inhabitants, but also the rural countryside of Oregon. Each is thematic (on African-American, Asian and native populations in Portland's history, on agriculture, ecology, etc.). They are automatically triggered one after the other by changing the screen.
