BUFFALO BILL CENTER OF THE WEST
The entrance is a bit expensive but well justified. This huge site brings together 5 museums dedicated to Western culture. Plan 2 to 3 hours if you want to take full advantage of this incredible art collection, with photos, anecdotes, projections and playful exhibitions dedicated to wildlife, native tribes and iconic characters in the history of the Far West.
Buffalo Bill Museum. The first museum of the city opened in 1917 and originally installed in a wooden hut in downtown, the Buffalo Bill Musem was moved to the present site. As at the time, he traces the life and exploits of the one who was in turn scouting for the army, hunter of bison, rider for Pony Express and then internationally known through his touring shows.
Plains Indian Museum. A very beautiful visual and playful exhibition dedicated to lifestyle, culture and Amerindian traditions.
Whitney Western Art Museum. Works of art among other paintings, engravings or sculptures that represent nature and life in the West through the eyes of different artists.
Cody Firearms Museum. The museum houses the most comprehensive collection of American firearms. There are nearly 7,000 firearms and more than 30,000 derivatives.
Draping Natural History Museum. A beautiful natural history museum that scrutinizes the richness of the Yellowstone National Park ecosystem. Geology, fauna, flora, history… if you are still not convinced of the inevitable stage of the national park, you will necessarily change your mind by coming out of the museum.
