SACRED CROCODILE POND
A pleasant site based in Bazoulé, with numerous birds and almost 200 sacred crocodiles protected by the villagers.
The Bazoulé site is particularly pleasant during the winter season when the landscape is all green, the pond is full, crocodiles are more active and birds are more numerous. Nearly two hundred sacred crocodiles reside in the pond in complete peace and quiet. Sacred, they are obviously protected by the villagers, according to which these crocodiles do not attack men because they themselves have never killed them. This "friendship" allows the accompanying guides to approach the crocodiles, feed them and sit on the backs of the saurians. Although they are immobile and accustomed to humans, it should not be ignored that these animals, despite their nonchalant appearance, are of formidable vivacity and that their bites are serious. Here comes the traveller who is warned if he is offered to try this mount! The guides are, for once, very well organized, and it is unlikely that a "fake" guide will try to deceive visitors. An association formed by the guides, the ADTB (Association pour le développement du tourisme à Bazoulé) was created by the villagers and the welcome is of good quality. To approach crocodiles, a guide is essential. The latter will wait for a small tip from you at the end of the visit, but this is not mandatory.
Walks around the pond. A small natural bath in a savannah landscape, the path around the pond is perfect for walking, of course, but also by bike, which can be rented at the entrance.
