SEMAINE NATIONALE DE LA CULTURE (SNC)
Alternating with the Fespaco of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso organizes in Bobo-Dioulasso the National Week of Culture (SNC), a major cultural event since 1983, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2020. This festival welcomes up to a thousand artists and spectators from all over the world. The city then comes alive with many street performances or organized in theatres and cultural centers, symposiums, exhibitions, debates or film screenings. This festival remains the framework for artistic expression par excellence, in fields as varied as the performing arts, cinema, the arts in general but also traditional sports, traditional pharmacopoeia, fashion or culinary art. In addition to the festive and radiant aspect of this week, the Grand Prix national des arts et des lettres (GPNAL) is taking place. Chaired by a jury, it aims to award an award to young talents who express themselves through the performing arts, the visual arts, literature, speech in the national language, cinema or culinary art. It is one of the country's most important cultural events and its objectives have remained unchanged since its creation: to promote the discovery and enhancement of Burkina Faso's cultural heritage, to stimulate artistic and literary creation, and to create a framework for exchanges between artists and cultural workers from all countries. At each edition of the SNC, which is intended as an opportunity for intercultural dialogue, a theme for reflection and creation is chosen.
