MUSEUM OF THE MUSIC OF YESTERDAY AND TODAY (ASPAC)
Interesting and educational museum presenting various musical instruments such as drums, balafons, bara, doumdoum...
Since 2002, the ASPAC (Association pour la Sauvegarde du Patrimoine Artistique et Culturel) museum has been exhibiting various musical instruments, from yesterday and today (more than 60). The visit, interesting and educational, will immerse you in one of Burkina Faso's major arts: music and its instruments. Drums, balafon, bara, doumdoum, flute or harp-lute, collected from different ethnic groups in Burkina Faso since 1993. These instruments are accompanied by photos taken during their collection and illustrating them in their social and cultural context. The approach focuses on their role in village communication and their importance in the traditions of different ethnic groups. The visit is guided, well conducted, leaving room for observation, reading and questions. It ends with the screening of a DVD documentary (26 minutes) on the evolution of African music. In addition to an enriching visit, this is an opportunity to discover books on the music of the region. However, we regret the ageing of the premises.
The visit of the museum allows to meet the association and its charismatic leader, Urbain Kam, or his brother Armel Kam, manager of the site.
