ASSOCIATION POUR LA PROMOTION FEMININE DE GAOUA (APFG)
Like most women's associations in Burkina Faso, the aim of the APFG is to carry out socio-economic and cultural activities with a view to improving the conditions of women in rural areas and to contribute to the awareness and popularization of their rights, including the fight against female genital mutilation (prohibited practice in the country since 1996). Many activities are proposed, including the processing of local products (shea butter and butter ointment, art objects, peanut paste, dried vegetables, local beer - dolo -, soumbala…), hens, literacy courses, "talks", health awareness courses, but also environment. Based in Gaoua, APFG has more than 400 women and operates in 50 villages in the Poni province.
The centre shop sells the products made by women, beautifully presented on large shelves. These include places beads, bags, wallets, baskets, pottery, and especially soap and shea butter. APFG has allowed the opening of dolo cabarets where women manufacture and sell the dolo live.
