HILLWOOD ESTATE
Museum exhibiting Marjorie Merriweather Post's impressive art collection, works from France, Asia and Russia.
North of Rock Creek Park, the former residence of the famous Marjorie Merriweather Post socialite is open to visitors. The colonial Georgian architectural residence was built in the 1920s and consists of 36 rooms. The museum exhibits Merriweather Post's impressive art collection, works from France, Asia and especially Russia. The Russian Collection exhibits many pieces that belonged to the Romanov family, acquired after the fall of the dynasty. You will also see some of the 90 Fabergé eggs collected by Merriweather during his lifetime. Not to spoil anything, the gardens surrounding the house on 10 hectares are just as charming as the house. You can explore the house at your own pace, using an audioguide if you wish, or take part in a very informative guided tour.
