INTERNATIONAL SPY MUSEUM
One of the few museums of its kind in the world! Opened in 2002 in the Penn Quarter, it moved in 2019 to a brand new building built especially for it. Thanks to its twice the size, temporary collections are now more frequent and an amphitheatre is accessible to the public.
The museum traces the history of espionage from biblical times to the present day. We will discover the evolution of espionage in Russia; machines to scramble messages, including the German Enigma machine; gadgets/weapons used by spies (pistol hidden in a stick used by Stalin's henchmen, shoe to record and broadcast at the same time the conversations during the Cold War used among KGB agents; carrier pigeon with a camera...). The museum also looks back on the journey of six famous spies, including Mata Hari and Dmitiri Bystrolyotov. A spectacular, informative and entertaining museum that will please young and old alike. And a little bit more, a souvenir shop sells a whole bunch of gadgets that should delight the younger ones (fake whiskers, magnifying glasses, etc.).
