This beautiful colonial building, completed in 1779, is the oldest state house in the United States. She even housed Congress during the 9 months (November 1783-August 1784) where Annapolis was the nation's capital at the end of the War of Independence. You can walk inside freely. It was here in the Old Senate Chamber that George Washington resigned from his post as Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army after the signing of the Treaty of Paris in September 1783.
