US NAVAL ACADEMY
Founded in 1845, it is the first naval school in the United States where today the 4,500 aspirants who were trained there for 4 years evolve. You can visit the Bancroft Hall student hostel, the Navy Chapel (with its Tiffany stained glass windows) whose nave looks like a boat, and the recently restored museum which has one of the most beautiful collections of model warships. In the hall are displayed many paintings of historical and marine battles. Every day of the week, at 12:05 p.m., the aspirants go into formation in the courtyard for a 20-minute military parade.
Guided tours of the academy are organized throughout the year. From March to November, they take place from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 3pm (from 9:30am in July and August) and on Sundays from 12pm to 3pm. From December to February, visits are at fixed times: Monday to Saturday at 10am, 11am, 1pm and 3pm and Sunday at 12:30pm, 1:30pm and 2:30pm. Very informative, they are conducted by certified guides and last on average 1 hour and 15 minutes.
