In 1776, while Thomas Jefferson took part in the Second Continental Congress, which was to adopt the American Declaration of Independence, he leased two pieces in this brick house on Market and 7 th Streets. She belonged to Jacob Graff, a mason who occupied the rest of the premises with his family (that is why it is sometimes called Graff House). It is in this building located next to the State House, but in a quiet neighborhood, that Jefferson began drafting the Declaration of Independence, a task he performed in three weeks. The pieces he occupied were reconstituted faithfully. Since the end of 2017 and for an indefinite period, Declaration House is closed to the public, but you can still go outside the building and imagine the work that has been accomplished between its walls.
