EDGAR ALLAN POE NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE
The famous writer lived a few years in this red brick house from 1843 with his wife Virginia and her mother-in-law Maria Clemm. The Gold Scarabée and the Black Cat were published while living here.
The pieces of the house are empty, no furniture has been found but it is appreciated that the National Park Service, which manages the place since it was named National Historic Landmark in 1962, did not try to pretend with elements that would not be original. It is the imagination that works and the author used it widely. In any case, walking in a typical house of Philadelphia and seeing the small film accompanied by an exhibition on Poe's work are enough to make the visit very interesting. For a small scare, the passage through the cellar recalls some of its news.
