MAGIC GARDENS
In 1994, the artist Isaiah Zagar began to work in the unoccupied field facing his workshop. For about ten years, he dig tunnels and caves, carved walls, made mosaic on nearly 300 square meters. The result is this improbable labyrinth garden with statues, bicycle wheels, multicolored bottles, and of course ceramic tiles and sparkling mirrors. His work reminds me of Gaudi. He pays tribute to various artistic influences (surrealism…) and is also inspired by events in the world and his life. These experiences are translated through words, playful or sad forms evoking his wife and son or the tragedy of September 11. In 2002, the land was almost sold. To avoid the destruction of this immense work of interior and exterior art, the neighborhood has created an association that allows visitors to welcome visitors and teach the art of mosaic mainly in disadvantaged neighborhoods. Visiting this place is a real invitation to travel, a moment of poetry where time is suspended. Not to miss. Several shop windows and wall walls have also been decorated with Zagar mosaics. Other works by the artist are seen in Eye's Gallery, a folk art gallery held by his wife.
