WHEATLAND
Built in 1828 in a federal style architecture (near neo-classicism), this house was the residence of James Buchanan, 15 th President of the United States and the only one from Pennsylvania. Before taking a guided tour of Wheatland, go to the museum in the hall of the visitor center that put in context the years leading to the war of Secession. The visit to the house gives a very good overview of the privacy and political life of James Buchanan, widely regarded as the worst President of the United States for failing to reconcile a nation on the brink of civil war.
