This mythical jazz bar, with its quality programming, was the first club in the state to be owned by an African-American.

This legendary jazz bar was founded in 1947. Its founder, Joseph L. Walcott, originally from Barbados, had immigrated to the United States thirty years earlier, via New York's Ellis Island. He was the first African-American from New England to become a club owner. A real success story! The venue is tiny but always full. The program is top-notch (blues on Mondays; funk on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays; Latin jazz on Thursdays, jazz on Fridays and Saturdays) and the cocktails are to die for!
