This traditional Chinese festival commemorates the death of Chinese political leader and poet Qu Yuan (340-278 BC) and takes place on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, in late May or early June. It began in 1979 in Boston, USA, and today federates hundreds of teams and competitions across the country, making this cultural festival a much-anticipated sporting event every year.
