A large patriotic parade in the North End to commemorate the first battles of the War of Independence.

In Boston, in the North End district, a parade commemorates the events of April 1775. On the program: lanterns lit at the Old North Church, participants dressed as Paul Revere and William Dawes ride through the neighbourhood, etc. The Boston Marathon was also run on this day and it was also customary for the Red Sox baseball team to play at home in its Fenway Park. It is not a national holiday, but Massachusetts and Maine have declared Patriot's Day a national holiday in their states!
