SAINT STEPHEN'S CATHOLIC CHURCH
Boston's oldest church built between 1802 and 1804 by noted Boston architect Charles Bulfinch
Erected between 1802 and 1804 by the renowned architect Charles Bulfinch (who also designed the Massachusetts State House), it is the oldest surviving church in Boston. In 1862, it was requisitioned by the Catholic Church. At that time, the neighborhood was mostly populated by Irish people. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Irish were gradually replaced by Italians, who continue to come to worship in this church, which was completely restored in 1964.
