OLD NORTH CHURCH
Boston's oldest surviving church, whose crypt contains the remains of over a thousand people
This church was built in 1723 by William Price, inspired by Sir Christopher Wren's London churches. It is Boston's oldest surviving church. Its recently renovated crypt contains the remains of over a thousand people, buried between 1732 and 1860. Each family of the Revolutionary era, like that of Paul Revere, had its own reserved space in the church, in closedpews of sorts, with a plaque bearing their name at the entrance. Inside, you can admire busts of George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette.
