MASSACHUSETTS STATE HOUSE
Massachusetts seat of government, housing the Assembly and the Governor's offices in Boston
Completed in 1798, and expanded many times since, the State House is the work of architect Charles Bulfinch (who designed the Capitol in Washington). Located on the heights of Beacon Hill, the building is the seat of government in Massachusetts. It houses the legislature and the governor's offices. Inspired by the European neoclassical style, it is known for its golden dome and beautiful interior. Initially made of wood, the dome was covered with copper and then, in 1874, with gold leaf.
