BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY
The first major library in the country, in 1895, where a letter written by Christopher Columbus in 1493 can be seen in Boston.
At the time of its opening in 1895, it was the first large library in the country. Today, it contains a letter written by Christopher Columbus in 1493 and the first book printed in the colonies. Don't hesitate to stop and admire Bates Hall, a beautiful reading room with long wooden tables, book-covered walls and vaulted windows; Abbey Room and its murals; Chavannes Gallery with its allegorical paintings made in Paris; the entrance hall and marble stairs, decorated with two sculptures of lions.
