NICHOLS HOUSE MUSEUM
Cobblestone alley lined with mansions, converted to a museum after Rose's death in Boston
On the heights of Beacon Hill, Mount Vernon is a cobbled lane lined with middle-class homes, including that of the Nichols family, converted into a museum after the death of Rose, the eldest daughter, in 1960. Built in 1804, this handsome, historic four-storey home provides an excellent insight into the lifestyle of Boston's high society between the late 19th and mid-20th centuries. Everything is period: the furniture, tapestries, paintings and objets d'art, some of which Rose brought back from Europe on her frequent trips.
